Questions for the Mayor's Literacy Commission Representative

Dr. Patty Long has been serving on the Mayor's Literacy Commission for a number of years. She was one of the members who was involved in choosing the book for the All City Read.

What questions do you have for her, as a representative from the Literacy Commission. Your question(s) might pertain to how they chose the book to why the Commission was formed in the first place.

Is this the first "all city read" Canton has had, and if not has the books in the past really had an affect on the literacy rate?

Why do you believe this is a good book for the "all city read" and how do you believe it will increase the literacy rate in Canton?

It was nice to have a speaker, but she seemed very scared of us... she talked for a while, but never really said anything.

How would you go about choosing a good book to read for the "All City Read"?

Why do you think that the "All City Read" will help raise the literacy rate in the city?

It was nice having a speaker come in and discuss certain things about the book to us, and help us more understand certain things. She answered some questions I had, including the ones I had posted on here before hand. But like any and everything in life there were a few flaws, such as how she seemed to talk in circles or elaborate so much that she went off topic. She talked about her self in every answer about the book in which had nothing to do with her. Like any speaker should she made eye contact, but she would hold it to certain people for far too long. I think that was mostly out of her being nervous but after awhile it made me nervous because it was like a blank stare. But other then that I enjoyed her coming and speaking, she wasn't the least bit boring compared to speakers I have experienced in the past, at least in my oppinion...
